Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
If you are righteous, you will be blessed. If you are a good person, God will reward you. This sounds like religion, but God is so gracious that the good that he works in us is rewarded by him. We can’t claim the credit for our blessings, it is all down to the righteousness of Christ.
I heard in church yesterday of some of the blessings we gain as Christians. We might loose a lot for following Christ, but we will not fail to gain many times more even in this life of mothers, brothers, sisters, homes and lands, with them persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. This isn’t about building a personal empire but gaining a global family.
Violence on the other hand overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. Unlike the aura of blessings on the righteous head, violence pours out of a wicked mouth like oil out of a leaky tanker. Violent men don’t just do violent deeds, they speak violent words.
We might not speak violence, but often violence is incited against people who are different, even if it is violence against people’s consciences. The consciences of Christians are often trampled on and dictated to by an increasingly strident lobby who would like to silence us. Still, no one can legislate against the fruit of the Spirit, or rob us of our blessings in Christ.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessings you have lavished upon me, especially for clothing me in the righteousness of Christ. Protect me from violent people, and take me safe to be with you. In Jesus’ name, amen”
